Borland Delphi Midas Components, developed by Borland Software, are a suite of runtime libraries and visual components for building scalable, multi-tier database applications in Delphi (and C++Builder). MIDAS—short for Multi-tier Distributed Application Services—separates the client interface, application server logic, and database layers, enabling efficient, distributed data access over COM/DCOM, HTTP, or sockets.
Key elements include TClientDataSet for in-memory, disconnected datasets; TDataSetProvider (Provider) for exposing server-side datasets; and connection components such as TDCOMConnection, TSocketConnection, and TWebConnection for linking clients to remote application servers. The components support the briefcase model, delta-based updates, conflict reconciliation, and constraints, which reduce network traffic while helping maintain data integrity.
With MIDAS, developers can centralize business rules in Remote Data Modules, implement optimistic locking, customize update resolution through reconcile events, and choose deployment patterns that fit their scalability needs. Delivered as part of Delphi’s data-access stack, MIDAS streamlined the creation of distributed systems and later evolved into what became known as DataSnap.
